Shhwonk Fortress is the first "dungeon" you'll find in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Petalburg. After a series of tough battles, your last trial awaits you in the form of Quiz Thwomp. Fortunately, you won't have to battle him. Instead, you'll be asked five trivia questions with dire consequences if you fail three in a row. Quiz Thwomp appears twice in The Thousand-Year Door, but failing the quiz in Chapter 1 generally isn't recommended due to your low level and HP.
Updated on May 31, 2024 by Renri Seong: The Quiz Thwomp is a character who appears twice in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. You won't have to battle him like most enemies, but you'll have to pass his Quiz Offs to advance. Your first Quiz Off is in the Shhwonk Fortress during Chapter 1. Your second and final Quiz Off is in the X-Naut Fortress during Chapter 7. The following guide has been updated to include the answers for the 66th Quiz Off.
Players will accumulate several Shine Sprites as they explore the world, but they'll need to collect a few in order to unlock their full potential.
To reach Quiz Thwomp, you'll need to enter the Shhwonk Fortress, which is to the east of Petalburg. In the first room, you'll battle two Bald Clefts, and in the second room, you'll fight two Bristles. In the third room, interact with the Thwomp to initiate the 65th Trivia Quiz Show. He'll warn "if you correctly answer five of the following questions, you'll win! But get three wrong, and you'll suffer!"
Here is every question and their respective answer in the 65th Trivia Quiz:
Correct Answer | |
---|---|
What's hidden in the Shhwonk Fortress? | Sun and Moon Stones |
What do one Mushroom and one Fire Flower cost at the shop in Petalburg? Total! | 12 Coins |
What is the name of the mayor of Petalburg? | Kroop |
Tell me, now! Where is the Crystal Star? | Hooktail Castle |
How can one get from Rogueport to Petal Meadows? | |
* Which of these following creatures have... hands? | Koopa Troopas |
* What number question is this? | Question Seven |
* Quiz Thwomp will only ask these if you failed a previous question(s).
Once you've aced the quiz, you can enter the remaining floor of Shhwonk Fortress. Here, you'll fight a new type of enemy and obtain the Sun and Moon Stones.
If you miss three questions, Quiz Thwomp will call in four Clefts to fight you. Unfortunately, these monsters are like the Bristles in the previous room. You won't be able to jump on them to deal damage, and at this point, the hammer won't be much use either. If you don't have a POW Block, you won't be able to win this fight and have to suffer a game over.
You can buy POW Blocks (5 Coins) from Niff T.'s shop in Petalburg.
On the other hand, if you do have POW blocks, you can purposefully select the wrong answer to trigger the battle. These Clefts will give 20 Star Points, so if you're looking to level up quickly, then failing the 65th Quiz might be worth it. Remember to have POW Blocks in the inventory before speaking to Quiz Thwomp.
Looking to get a lot of coins as quickly as possible in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door? Here are the best methods to use.
You'll run into a robotic version of the Quiz Thwomp in the X-Naut Fortress. Much like Chapter 1, Chapter 7's Quiz Thwomp stands between you and a key item that's required for progressing through the fortress. Quiz Thwomp "drops" the Elevator Key (Red) upon defeat.
Like the first Quizz Off, you need to answer five questions correctly to proceed. Here's each question and their respective answer in the 66th Quiz Off:
Correct Answer | |
---|---|
Exactly what's hidden here? | Elevator Key |
What's the name of the girl in Petalburg who's waiting patiently for Koops' return? | Koopie Koo |
Goomba, Lava Bubble, Buzzy Beetle, and Boo. How many feet do they have? Total! | 6 feet |
It's elementary... for non-idiots! Where was the one, the only, Diamond Star? | |
What was the name of the very first champion of the Glitz Pit? | Prince Mush |
* What did Francesca and Frankie from Rogueport lose on Keelhaul Key? | A ring |
* What number question is this? | Question Seven |
* You'll only see these questions if you fail a previous one.
If you fail three questions, you'll be pitted against two X-Yux. Unlike their weaker Yux-counterpart, X-Yux will summon two Mini-X-Yux during their turn. A total of four Mini-X-Yux can be deployed per X-Yux, and unless you get rid of the Mini-X-Yux, you won't be able to damage the X-Yux. Furthermore, X-Yux can paralyze their targets (ie: Mario and the active Partner). You'll want to get rid of the Mini-X-Yux as soon as possible to avoid getting immobilized and potentially combo'd.
