SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES WEB RADIO OF CHILDREN'S VILLAGE

Tunis, June 24 (TAP) - The Tunisian Association of SOS Children's Villages launched on Monday in Gammarth the web radio of the children's village.

The association has also set up a cinema club at the village in Gammarth. These two achievements are part of a donation made to the association by six students who won a competition organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in partnership with the UNESCO office in Tunisia in October 2023.

The donation consisted of equipment for the web studio and the cinema club, Aicha Zemni, head of a support project at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) office in Tunis, told TAP on the sidelines of the launch ceremony.

Thirteen Tunisian universities took part in the competition, with 6 students per university presenting innovative ideas on sustainable development, civic education and social projects.

A second competition was organised on the sidelines of the national competition to produce awareness-raising materials on the same themes, which was also won by three students. The winners of the two competitions donated their prizes to SOS Children's Villages.

The president of the Tunisian SOS Children's Villages Association, Mohamed Megdiche, said that the initiative is part of the association's communication plan and has been an idea since 2020.

He added that the association will contract a number of professional journalists to train children, young people and village educators to provide content that expresses their expectations.

The web radio experience will be extended to the other villages, namely the children's villages of Mahres (Sfax), Siliana and Akouda (Sousse).

The programme will be hosted by a group of students from the SOS Children's Villages Ambassadors (clubs in higher education institutions) and a number of young people from the villages, who will prepare and present various programmes.

The young people and guests will address a number of meaningful issues that value the role of children and youth in solidarity and citizenship movements, he said.

The radio programmes will be broadcast on the radio's website (Radio SOS LIVE-SOS village d'enfants Tunisie sosve.tn) and Facebook page.

The SOS Children's Village in Gammarth has now added a cinema club to its clubs (dance, painting, reading and theatre), he said, adding that a film was shown on Monday for the children and young people of the village.
