VIDYUT JAMMWAL SAYS HE ‘LOST SO MANY CRORES’ AFTER CRACKK BOX OFFICE FAILURE, JOINED A FRENCH CIRCUS TO RECOVER: ‘SPENT TIME WITH A CONTORTIONIST’

Actor Vidyut Jammwal, who also produced his latest film Crackk, reflected on the financial losses he incurred when the film flopped at the box office earlier this year. In an interview, he said that he lost 'crores', but recovered it all just three months later because he stuck to his guns and took measures to mitigate losses. Among the first things he did following the setback, he said, was to join a French circus troupe and learn from the performers.

In an interview with Zoom, Vidyut admitted that Crackk didn't do as well as hoped. Released in February, the movie made around Rs 17 crore in its box office run, against a budget of Rs 45 crore. It marked Vidyut's second box office under-performer in a row, following the spy thriller IB17, which he co-produced as well. It made Rs 29 crore against a budget of around Rs 40 crore.

He said, "I lost a lot of money (because of Crackk's failure). The most important thing for me was, how will I deal with it. With losing money comes a lot of advice. People who've lost money in the past and friends who really care about you... It was important for me to disconnect from all the advice. After the release of Crackk, I joined a French circus and spent about 14 days with these elite human beings."

He continued, "I spent time with this contortionist. A contortionist is someone who can make their bodies reach certain levels which are nearly impossible. So, when I'm watching a contortionist, in my head, it's like, 'Oh my God, how can somebody be like this'. I'm the smallest person in that room when I'm in a circus like that. I spent some time with those guys, and by the time I came back to Mumbai, everything had calmed down."

Vidyut said that three months after Crackk's box office failure, he was 'debt-free'. He said, "When I came back, I sat down and thought, 'Okay, I've lost so many crores, now what do we do?' And I have to tell you, in three months, I'm debt-free. It's a miracle." When his friends asked how he did it, Vidyut told them that he just didn't 'stress about it', and executed a game plan that he didn't explain.

Directed by Aditya Datt, Crackk also featured Arjun Rampal, Nora Fatehi and Amy Jackson. The movie received mixed to negative reviews, and was edited significantly for its streaming and satellite release. Vidyut admitted that when he watched the theatrical cut, he felt it was a little slow.
