HATHRAS STAMPEDE: SIX ARRESTED, BOUNTY OF RS 1 LAKH ANNOUNCED ON KEY ACCUSED; VIRAL VIDEO SHOWS BHOLE BABA LEAVING VENUE

With the bodies of all the victims being identified, and handed over to their families, the toll of the deceased has reached to 123, mostly women. The organiser of the 'Satsang' has also been arrested including other five others. A total of six arrests have been made so far in the case and the police have announced a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on the arrest of the main accused, Prakash Madhukar. Let's take a look at all the updates:

- A CCTV footage also came to light on Thursday. The video that shows Bhole Baba, whose satsang ended up in the tragic incident, leaving the accident site with his convoy. The small clip shows Baba's sevadars standing in a line outside the petrol pump and after this vehicles pass by rapidly. This convoy of vehicles is being said to be of 'Bhole Baba'.

- Union Minister SP Singh Baghel met Hathras stampede victims' families in Agra. Stating the numbers, he said that 17 people in the Agra district were killed. Out of the deceased, 16 are women and one is a man.

- Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Wednesday constituted a three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission under the chairmanship of Justice (retd) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava to ensure comprehensiveness of the subject matter and transparency in the inquiry.

- The Judicial Commission will investigate the various aspects of the Hathras stampede in the next two months and after the investigation, a report will be submitted to the State Government.

- National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma met the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Hathras met the victims who got injured and assured the arrest of the culprits. She said that there is a need to counsel and educate women, as they become easy targets for Babas in such events due to lack of education.

- The preacher 'Bhole Baba' identified as Suraj Pal is also known by the names of Narayan Sakar Hari and Jagat Guru Vishwahari.

- As per the prima facie report, the devotees rushed to seek blessings and collect soil from around the preacher's feet, but were stopped by the security personnel of 'Bhole Baba'. Later, they started pushing one another due to which several people fell to the ground, leading to chaos at the site.

- Some people ran towards the adjoining field filled with mud, due to which they fell and were crushed by other devotees, the report stated.

- An FIR has also been filed against Devprakash Madhukar, referred to as 'Mukhya Sewadar' and other organizers of the 'Satsang'. The complaint has been filed under Sections 105, 110, 126(2), 223, and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
