BENGAL: MAN BEATS WOMAN WITH STICKS ON STREET IN DINAJPUR, ACCUSED HELD

A man was arrested from Chopra in Dinajpur for allegedly assaulting a woman and a man in the same area. The arrest comes after a video of a man thrashing two people, including a woman went viral. The viral clip shows people on the road watching silently as the man assaults the two.

Locals claimed that the victim woman was summoned by JCB over allegations that she was in an extra-marital relationship. The youth, with whom the victim woman has been accused of having a relation, was also mercilessly beaten up by JCB at the same Kangaroo Court, according to IANS.

Chopra legislator Hamidul Rahman said that he has already summoned JCB to know what actually happened. The inspector-in-charge of Chopra Police Station Amaresh Singh confirmed police have taken up the case and the investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, in the video, a man is seen repeatedly striking a woman with sticks while a small crowd remains silent. She cries in pain, but the attack continues. He then turns to a man and begins hitting him. Instead of trying to stop the assault, the majority of the crowd appears to be helping the attacker. At one point, the man grabs the woman's hair and kicks her.

The video stirred a controversy with the BJP attacking West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee-led government for the incident.

Sharing the video, BJP's IT cell head, Amit Malviya identified the man as Tajemul. According to the information shared by Malviya, the incident took place at North Dinajpur, West Bengal.

"This is the ugly face of Mamata Banerjee’s rule in West Bengal. The guy in the video, who is beating up a woman mercilessly, is Tajemul (popular as JCB in the area). He is famous for giving quick justice through his ‘insaf’ sabha and is a close associate of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman. India must wake up to the reality of Sharia Courts in TMC-run West Bengal. There is a #Sandeshkhali in every village and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a curse for women," the BJP leader wrote on X.

"There is no semblance of law and order in Bengal. Will Mamata Banerjee act against this monster or defend him like she stood up for Sheikh Shahjahan? Place - Laxmikantapur, Chopra, North Dinajpur, West Bengal," he added, asking National Commission of Women to take not of the situation.

CPM state secretary and former MP Mohammed Salim also shared the video and wrote, "Not even #KangarooCourt! Summary trial and punishment handed out by d @AITCofficial goon nicknamed JCB. Literally bulldozer justice at Chopra under @MamataOfficial rule."

He also stated that the man who recorded the video has been forced out his home.

"Such is the TMC's rule in the liberated zone of Chopra under the supervision of @WBPolice," he said, alleging that Tajemul is also an accused in a murder case.
